Uncertain times. A new variant of COVID, an economy that does not quite recover to our community and weather that can be violent and scary. What are we to do? The answer is that we need and must come together. This is our community and as long as we are able to obtain food and open our doors, we will do so. Forty years ago we opened our doors and through thick times and lean times — we continue to meet the needs of the community.
What can you do? Of course, volunteer, show up, donate — tell others to donate. Pray in your faith tradition. Advocate for change. There is power in community. Not in a way that creates division — but through love. Power to console. Power to raise up. Power to support. In our community there is “little I” and “big We”. If you have not donated in a while, maybe it’s time to show some personal power.
Food should not be a privilege but should be a right for all people. And not processed food or food that nobody wants. Imagine a world where the very best food is obtained through the community food centers like NourishMKE. We can and we can make it so. What does your heart beat for? You will find others that beat in synch and that is where we can come together as one.
This is our community and we are one.
